El Salvador with Shelly and Sienna!

This past weekend was a long weekend for us Guatemalans because of El Dia de la Revolucion (I am not sure what exactly we were celebrating or commemorating, but it was nice to have Monday of school). So I packed my bags and headed to El Salvador with my friend Shelly, her two month old baby Sienna, and the nanny Reina! Shelly and I have had some terrible luck in the past, and so we were a bit nervous about us taking this trip.... not really nervous, but we were like oh no, what's gonna happen next. The bad luck consisted of me being on the way to Shelly's baby shower when I was in the car accident by my house. Then I was taking Shell to the doctor when the car was stolen in front of her apartment (PS- the car was found and we are STILL waiting to get it back from another town... 3 months later). And finally my camera broke when I was taking pictures of Sienna as a newborn (thankfully it has started working again). All that to say we were NOT unlucky this trip!

The trip began with a quick stop at a local supermarket to buy minutes for our telephones. It was a triple day so we got 3 x the number of minutes for what you bought. I gave them Q100 (roughly $13) and I recieved 6 x the minutes because the lady entered it twice! SCORE! There was nothing I could do about it and i had no more money to offer her for the bonus.

After a great ride to El Sal (about 4 hours), we arrived at the Roca Sunzal hotel. We had requested a room on the bottom floor with just enough space for us, but were immediatly upgraded to a sweet! THANKS Jes! Our friend Jes visits a lot and so they like us gringas from Guatemala :) The sweet was perfect!! And they gave us the rate for the basic room on the ground floor! SCORE 2!

Finally Reina was our Score 3! How perfect to bring the nanny on vacation. She is wonderful and just loves being with Sienna, so while she was sleeping, she would remain inside and Shell and I could enjoy the sun and fun! Plus Reina had never left Guatemala, so this trip was perfect!

We returned Monday, relaxed and ready to begin conference week (kidding....) But it truly was a great weekend!
