Sadly, I have not eaten since last Saturday... I occasionally try something like pasta or grits, but my stomach has rejected everything since that day! I went to the doctor at school and he prescribed some medicine that was just not working... SO after some tests and a visit to another doctor, we all believe that I have salmonella! YIKES! Who knows what I ate, but I have been pretty sick. It has not caused me to miss work, but I have not had much energy and I have slept close to 10 hours each night! Thankfully the new meds should kick in soon and I will be back to my old self again :) Just pray that I don't get any sicker please!
Futeca (my futbol/soccer club) has started again!! Sadly the other team did not show up for the first game, but we have enough ladies (plus one extra guy) to make 2 complete teams... it is only 5 on 5!! Below are some pics from our first game/practice!

Independence Day activities did not just occur on the 15th!! We were able to spend some time with the locals of San Marcos La Laguna during their festivities! The kids were out in full force (as were the kids in all of us)!! Adam had a blast trying out the old school monkey bars!!

Central America celebrates Independence Day on September 15th each year and thankfully this year, this date fell on a Monday which meant LONG WEEKEND!! So I jumped in a shuttle with some fellow teachers and we drove to San Marcos La Laguna on Lake Atitlan (I will post some pictures from San Marcos later). It was a weekend filled with Independence Day events that began Friday at school and lasted through many parades today. As we drove home we were stopped in 4 different towns where everyone gathered together to celebrate with a desfile (parade) that always involved the local students playing the drums and children dressed in traditional clothing! Below are some pictures from the festivities from Panajachal to Guatemala City! These girls were beautiful with their all white attire!!
Some onlookers in the traditional corte (skirt) and huipil (shirt).
Check out the volcano in the background!! that's guate!
They even pull floats with tractors in Guatemala!
The belle of the ball!
Look at those sunglasses and hat!! But don't worry, Guatemala still loves Red and Black!
These Senoritas loved getting their picture taken by the gringas!
