Central America celebrates Independence Day on September 15th each year and thankfully this year, this date fell on a Monday which meant LONG WEEKEND!! So I jumped in a shuttle with some fellow teachers and we drove to San Marcos La Laguna on Lake Atitlan (I will post some pictures from San Marcos later). It was a weekend filled with Independence Day events that began Friday at school and lasted through many parades today. As we drove home we were stopped in 4 different towns where everyone gathered together to celebrate with a desfile (parade) that always involved the local students playing the drums and children dressed in traditional clothing! Below are some pictures from the festivities from Panajachal to Guatemala City!
These girls were beautiful with their all white attire!!
